“Manager.NEWS”: How an Internship at Euroins Turns into a Career – A Real-Life Example

Press

Starting without experience and still being with the company years later — this is a scenario many students look for, but rarely see in practice. One such example comes from the internship program at Euroins, where a young professional managed to turn his first opportunity into a real career. Ivan Milev, Digital Marketing Specialist, shares how the internship program became the starting point of his professional journey.

From the University Classroom to the Real Business World

Tell us briefly about yourself – what were you studying and what kind of opportunity were you looking for?

When I joined the company, I was in the second year of my bachelor’s degree in Management and Business Information Systems. I was literally looking for all kinds of opportunities. I didn’t have a specific field I wanted to focus on. In fact, at that time, I was even planning to work at the seaside during the summer season.

How did you come across the Euroins internship program?

I found out about the program through a career event organized by my university. At these kinds of events, every student has the opportunity to meet representatives from different businesses and potentially get the chance to start their career — just like it happened for me.

What made you apply specifically there?

As someone who values communication very highly, the future colleagues from Euroins who were presenting the company at the event made a very strong impression on me — mainly because of their attitude and positive energy. Later on, things worked out in such a way that I actually started my internship in the same department where they worked. We have now been working together for two years.

How did your first day as an intern go?

The first day was mainly about preparation. Iva and Megi, whom I had met at the career fair, welcomed me warmly. They had prepared some company materials for me — a notebook, a pen, and similar items. I familiarized myself with the handbook for new employees, and together we prepared my future workspace.

Challenges and Lessons from Practice

What were your first tasks?

The first task I remember more vividly happened during a marketing conference we attended together in my very first week as an intern. They handed me a phone and said, “You need to shoot a video from the event.” Up until that moment, I had never filmed that type of video before, but I’m not someone who gets scared of challenges. After spending a little time thinking about the shots I needed and improvising throughout the process, the video turned out great. To this day, it remains one of my favorite videos I’ve ever created.

Was there anything that surprised you?

Usually, I’m not easily surprised and, thinking back, there isn’t one specific thing that truly shocked me. Maybe, looking at it from today’s perspective, everything related to starting work and developing professionally happened much more easily than most young people imagine.

We’re often burdened with the belief that you absolutely need experience in order to start in a specific field. That you need recommendations, projects, and all kinds of certificates for a company to even pay attention to you. So either I was lucky to end up in the right place — Euroins — or these are simply misconceptions society keeps reinforcing.

What did a typical day as an intern look like?

There really wasn’t a typical day. That’s actually one of the reasons I grew to like my job at the company so much. As I already mentioned, in my very first week we attended a marketing conference. During the three months of my internship, I participated in many important activities and projects.

My arrival coincided with Euroins transitioning to a new website. Working on it taught me a lot. At the same time, we also started developing the company’s TikTok channel, where together with my colleagues we achieved very good results.

I also realized that this is something that genuinely brings me joy. At the time we started, there was only one competing insurance company with an active presence on the platform, and I can confidently say that we gave a serious push in this direction for the rest of the industry as well.

So I would describe my internship days at Euroins as dynamic and productive, both for me and for the company.

What did you learn in practice that you hadn’t learned at university?

Practice always teaches valuable lessons. Everyone knows that theoretical preparation alone is not enough. Many of the problems that can arise during work are things you would never even think about if you had only read about them.

Personally, I believe that no two situations are ever the same, and there is no single template for how to react when something goes wrong or even when carrying out routine tasks.

University is a wonderful place, and I will always fully support higher education, but unfortunately — or perhaps fortunately — some things simply cannot be learned without spending hours gaining practical experience.

What was your biggest mistake or most difficult moment in the beginning, and how did the team react?

As immodest as it may sound, I haven’t had any major mistakes. My team and I have always worked very well together, and whenever I’ve needed help, I’ve always received support from them. Maybe that’s exactly the reason there haven’t been any major mishaps.

Why Euroins? Development and a Supportive Environment

How did your role change over time?

After finishing the internship program, we liked each other mutually. I worked with enthusiasm, and apparently they were happy with my work as well, because they offered me a permanent position as a Digital Marketing and Online Service Specialist. I accepted, and for the past two years I’ve been building on a solid foundation.

Which skills did you develop the most?

In my opinion, I’ve developed many skills. First of all, the technical abilities I use every day. I also gained confidence in my own capabilities — when you see that the projects you complete perform well and receive praise from others, you gradually start building confidence.

I believe I’ve also improved my ability to present and express the ideas in my head more clearly and refined my adaptability.

What is the atmosphere in the team like?

This is exactly why I work at Euroins. As I’ve already mentioned several times, my team and I get along wonderfully, and we connected from our very first meeting at the career forum. The atmosphere itself is friendly, creative, and supportive. Of course, there are occasional disagreements, which I actually see as proof that the work is being done properly — confronting different opinions and viewpoints always leads to a more objective result.

Did you receive support and guidance in the beginning?

I have never been denied help or support by anyone — not only within my team, but throughout the entire company. I know many stories from peers of mine who also work, but who have told me about colleagues that “hide their craft,” refuse to help, and simply leave newcomers to figure things out on their own. I’ve even heard about sabotage, which is completely incomprehensible to me.

What do you think distinguishes Euroins as a place to start a career?

I’ve already talked about some of the company’s distinguishing advantages. Overall, this is a large company with many opportunities for development. It’s a place where everyone can receive guidance and support. I should also mention that I didn’t originally apply for an internship in the department where I eventually started working. I was redirected later. Euroins — and especially the Human Resources department — recognized and understood where my interests were after the interviews we conducted. To this day, I’m extremely grateful that they didn’t just place me randomly somewhere in the company, but instead helped put the puzzle pieces together to achieve the best possible result.

Advice for Future Interns

What advice would you give students looking for an internship?

Don’t overthink things too much. Create a well-presented CV without worrying that you don’t have enough experience to fill it. Mention all your interests that could potentially be useful in your future workplace. And apply boldly — you have nothing to lose. And if the stories about working at Euroins resonate with you, apply and maybe we’ll become colleagues.

What are the most common mistakes you’ve seen?

The most common mistake is standing still and waiting. Be proactive. Search. Stay curious. If necessary, even be persistent. At this stage of life, there are almost no wrong steps.

Ivan’s story is not an exception, but part of Euroins’ deliberate strategy for developing young talent.

Over the past year, the Euroins internship program attracted record interest, with half of the candidates beginning their professional journey at the company.

This year, the initiative launched once again with participation in the career forum at the University of National and World Economy, held on April 21, 2026. Interest in the opportunities offered by the insurance company was exceptionally high, and Euroins was recognized by the organizers as the most visited stand at the event.

“For us, the internship program is not just a short-term initiative, but a way to develop future professionals,” commented Gergana Dimova, Head of Human Resources at Euroins.

This year’s Euroins internship program has already begun. If you want your story to sound like Ivan’s, follow the open positions and apply at Euroins.bg.
